Are Costume Contacts safe for Halloween?

Return To Blog creepy woman's eye's

Halloween is fast approaching, and we are all starting to think about what to be this year! Many costumes can be enhanced with specialty contact lenses to give the overall look that WOW factor, but buyer beware!

There are many stories out there about people losing their vision or getting serious eye infections from costume contact lenses, especially those bought online or at a flea market. The safest option is always to see your eye care provider and have these lenses properly prescribed for your eyes. Your eye doctor will also be able to teach you how to care for and clean the lenses to avoid infection.

It is important to note that ALL contact lenses are classified as medical devices by the FDA and require a valid prescription, even if you have perfect vision. The sale of contact lenses without a prescription is illegal, and lenses purchased this way are often contaminated.

Don’t let your Halloween turn into a nightmare! If you’re set on completing your look with contact lenses, our doctors can help! Call us to schedule an appointment with one of our Houston optometrists, Dr. Aric Welton or Dr. Stephanie Lozano. Happy Halloween!
